In addition, the school aims to improve student experience by providing convenient access to numbers of facilities such as library, health centre, uniform shop, stationery shop and tuck shop.
At Macleans College, students are free to choose their preferred academic pathway. The school is currently offering 2 different pathways for senior secondary education which are Cambridge International (UK qualification), and NCEA (New Zealand qualification). However, regardless of the differences, both qualifications are recognized worldwide. Thus, not only will they give students the chance to pursue higher education in New Zealand, but also around the globe, especially at highly developed countries such as United Kingdom, Australia, United States, Canada, etc.
Macleans College also aims to promote students’ personal development. Hence, students are strongly encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities like dance festival, debating, speech competitions, drama productions, hockey team, football team, etc. According to Macleans College, the school also has its unique Whānau House system in which students are allocated to their respective houses based on their year of study, and then escorted to them by the individual House Leader. There are 8 whānau houses in total – Batten House, Hillary House, Kupe House, Mansfield House, Rutherford House, Snell House, Te Kanawa House and Upham House, to provide students with effective learning environment for leadership and teamwork development. Moreover, the city where it is situated in – Auckland, has many interesting sightseeing including beautiful landscapes, famous museums and large amusement parks (i.e. Hobbiton™ Movie Set and Whoa! Studios) for students to relax and de-stress after a long school week.
Regarding the cost, flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Auckland, New Zealand (one way and round trip) would be around 900 NZD to 1200 NZD. By purchasing tickets early, or using membership discount codes of certain airlines, students will be able to spend less and save more. International students pursuing a curriculum program at Macleans College can register to be placed in a homestay to help further reduce their costs of living. This could also assist students in their second language (English) learning and acquisition.
In order to bring the best of New Zealand’s education experiences to Vietnamese students, as well as the chance for them to strive and grow in a better English-rich environment, Macleans College (New Zealand) has partnered with International Education Institute – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh (IEI) to organize a Study Tour at Macleans College in 2020. The tour is designed for students from grade 7 to grade 11. Throughout the tour, a tour guide from Viet Nam will always be present to supervise and assist students with anything they need. Each student will have a room for himself/herself at the homestay. The host families are in charge of providing 3 meals a day to the students, ensuring they eat healthily with nutritious food. This study tour is perceived as a unique opportunity for Vietnamese students to experience a new and advanced teaching style in New Zealand, before deciding whether or not they would like to pursue the senior secondary education at Macleans College in the future.
